Success Is Progress, Not Perfection

When you make progress you are successful.  When I first heard someone say that I was super pleased.  As a past perfectionist I know how much perfection gets in the way of happiness.  When you aim for perfection you are not going to be successful.

As a Business, Career and Life  Coach I strongly believe, “Progress is a Process”.  Making progress is about being successful one step at a time.  A series of successful small steps become a giant step towards your goal.  Sometimes making progress takes longer then you expected.  This reality will maybe make you feel frustrated or disappointed.  It’s important to experience these “bad” feelings and remember, “this too shall pass!”

Perfection and Success go together like oil and vinegar.  Which means that they don’t!  Perfectionism becomes an obsession.  You are obsessed with not making a single mistake.  It’s got to be just right.  There is no gray zone.  Perfectionists are black and white thinkers with an overly internal critical voice.  They maintain a low level of self esteem and confidence.  It is a hard way to live.

It helps a perfectionist to focus on “Good Enough.” I frequently say that good enough is good enough!  My perfectionistic clients like the idea and also get scared.  Changing your mindset is challenging.  It requires a strong commitment to pushing past your fears.  Start by remembering to be kind and loving to yourself, always!
