The Power of Personality

Power of PersonalityWhile managing your emotions is important, so is understanding and learning how to manage your personality.  In Business and in Life, getting along with others is necessary for success!

No two people have exactly the same personality.   Our brains are uniquely wired.  When you are a good manager of your personality you bring out the best in yourself and your relationships.

Personality effects how we perceive and respond to people and situations.  There is an upside and downside to every personality type.  You may not realize that your personality is part of what is making life difficult for you.

A narcissist is going to have a harder time being empathetic than someone who tends to be a nurturer or caretaker.  Many successful entrepreneurs score high on narcissism. They are more focused on themselves and less interested in what others are thinking or feeling.  On the positive side they are the ones who inspire and motivate people.

A perfectionist may alienate people by being demanding, critical and judgmental but may also have the vision, commitment, persistence, determination and stamina to succeed in a competitive business environment.

Here are five helpful tips for managing your personality:

  1. Acknowledge your personality type.
  2. Accept it and don’t judge it.
  3. Understand when it serves you well and when it doesn’t.
  4. Develop a “change” plan for when it doesn’t.
  5. Implement the “change” plan slowly and gently.
