Decision Making and Recalculating like a GPS!

When your GPS starts recalculating it means you made a wrong turn.  It immediately reroutes you to get back on the right road.  It is annoying and sometimes embarrassing to hear “recalculating” coming out of your smart phone.  It is also nice to have the help.

I worked on a second book for several months before realizing my content is better suited as an article.  My feelings led me to this realization.  They were recalculating.  It made it easier to change paths as I trust my feelings most of all.

The good news about decisions is that you can always make another one.  No matter how many times you turn the wrong way, your GPS will recalculate and put you on a new path.  It’s automatic and amazing!

Unlike a GPS, as a human I had to deal with difficult feelings like frustration, fear and disappointment.  Recalculating is a process.  It’s important to gather “emotional” data so you can make the best decision.

WHAT I LEARNED or (*Learned Again!)…

Make sure you are doing something for the right reasons.  Mine were not the best.  I wanted the book to influence my legacy and provide  my next big challenge.  There are other ways besides a book to share an important message or feel challenged.

*To walk the talk!  I made the decision to stop writing the book after paying attention to my uncomfortable feelings.  I’m grateful that I  continually track good and bad feelings in my Feelings Journal.

You don’t need a book to get “good” speaking engagements.  For many years I thought you did.  Without a book, I’m already finding good opportunities to speak about my passion!

WHAT WOULD I DO DIFFERENTLY?

I would have used what I’ve already written to make the writing process easier.  Out of 112 blogs I’ve posted, 28 of them relate to “First Feel, Second Solve”.  I also wrote about this topic (emotions management) at the end of my first book.

I would consult with more people earlier in the decision making process and open my mind and heart to push back.  Out of determination and some fear as well, I ignored opposing viewpoints rather than giving them serious consideration.

I’d start by engaging a writing coach and later a professional editor or ghost writer to help me write the book.  A book needs to reflect the content creator’s vision and voice.  It would have been easier if I had started the process with the help of a writing coach.

Thank you for reading “A Minute With MarGO!”  I appreciate your support.
