Knowing What To Do Is The Easy Part

Many Professionals and Business Owners spend hundreds of dollars on workshops and seminars.  Incredible amounts of “good” information are consumed at conferences.  What happens when you get back to your private practice or business? Do you implement what you learned?

Why do I believe that Knowing What To Do Is The Easy Part?  Because it is!  In all seriousness I’ve discovered that without ongoing “emotional” support my clients end up feeling frustrated and discouraged because they haven’t implemented what they learned.

As a Licensed Counselor and Coach I make it safe to express your difficult feelings when the going gets rough. Forming new habits or doing something for the first time is not easy. You need extra guidance till you get in a groove. Having a buddy helps but it’s not the same as having a professional prepare you for the inevitable emotional hurdles.

Why Implementation (Doing it) is the Hard Part

  • Maintaining Motivation: You really want to do this but when it becomes difficult you start questioning and slowly lose your motivation.
  • Breaking Bad Habits: Change requires behaving or doing something in a different way. It takes discipline and determination to manage discomfort.
  • Navigating Negative Predictions: When you get scared you make negative predictions such as it won’t make any difference, it really doesn’t matter or I already know I don’t have what it takes.
  • Managing Unexpected Change:  You are working diligently to make an important change and then something outside of your control happens that forces you to change your focus.
  • Setting Realistic Expectations:  Sometimes it’s hard to set realistic expectations.  There is no way of knowing ahead of time how something will go.  Usually things take longer then we expect.  It’s easy to get angry and give up or slowly sabotage your success.

Knowing what to do is the easy part.  Doing it is much harder.   Make sure you fully understand the roadmap including potential places where there may be a road block.  Be realistic about what you can handle on your own.  If you get stuck it’s no big deal… just reach out for help 🙂
