Introverts Aren’t Good At Networking.  Not True.  Check out Chapter 7!

“I’m not outgoing.  I hate parties.  I can’t stand chit chat.”  I hear this quite often.  It’s one of the “But Margo…” statements in my book.  Many people think you can’t be good at networking unless you are an extrovert.  This is absolutely not true.

What they want me to know is they won’t be easy to work with.   I smile knowing that is probably not going to happen.  My extremely extroverted clients can be more challenging.  Not always but certainly sometimes.

The secret sauce to networking is showing you care.   How does someone experience caring.  Listening is the best way to show you care. Be inquisitive.  Ask them to share what they love most about their work and what they dislike.  Ask questions including “What can I help you with?”  Maybe it’s a referral or a resource for a problem or challenge they are currently dealing with.

The other “But Margo…” is “How am I supposed to genuinely act like I care about people I don’t even know yet?” If building a strong relationship is based on “Like, Trust and Respect” that has nothing to do with small talk or being an extrovert.   Sharing similar values is also very important.

Introverts prefer one-on-one communication.  They dislike socializing in a large group setting.  Building a relationship requires getting to know someone.  That is impossible to do in a large group.  Even if you meet someone at a networking event or party the next step needs to be meeting them for coffee, a meal or a drink!

Be sure to prequalify someone before setting up a meeting.  Are they a potential Ideal “7-10” Client or Referral Source?  Time is our most valuable resource.  We don’t want to waste it.

As a Business and Life Coach I help my clients reach one goal and then another.   My ultimate goal is to help them have a life that is better than they ever could have imagined.  As your work life improves (more fulfillment and fun) it will positively impact your personal life.  Or vice versa!

Let’s put together a Networking Plan for you!  It’s one of the best ways to build your business or career.  It’s also good for dating!!

Until next week!
