Building A Stronger Support System

Barbara Streisand sang “People, people who need people… Are the luckiest people in the world” These words still bring tears to my eyes.  You know you need people and yet you resist asking for help and don’t realize the impact on your personal and professional growth and happiness!  I’ve been there!

By Support System, I mean the people who support and help you be the best you can be.  Other sources of support include financial, health, time and energy.  Why is it important to have a strong support system?  How can you make yours stronger?

All problems are solvable with more support.   Having the support in place and using it is the goal to pursue.  Be mindful of strengthening your support system.  A little goes a long way.  Reach out and say hello. Spend time together or catch up over the phone.

Try These Three Simple Steps:

  1. Review your current support team.  Rate them on a scale of 1-10 with ten being the most supportive. If there are people under a five consider replacing them with a seven or higher!
  2. Create an Ideal Support Person Profile.  List the top qualities and strengths that you want.  Pay attention to people you already know.  Many times the perfect person is already in your life.
  3. Nurture, nurture and nurture some more!  Never stop showing that you care and always be aware of ways to reciprocate.  Be careful if you an over-giver.

How can you overcome your fear of asking for help or utilizing your support system?  Be brave!  Take baby steps and set realistic expectations.  Be okay with not getting what you want.  Don’t take it personally and keep working the list!

In Business and Life you hope you can handle difficult situations.  You can as long as you get the help you need.  Negative feelings such as fear, shame, guilt and disappointment become the bad guys.  They prevent you from getting the help you need.  Call a Feelings or Emotions Management Expert today.  Call me!
