What Are You Really Afraid of?

The real reason isn’t apparent at first.  You want to leave your job, career or a relationship.  You have sought input from others who know you well and come up with a list of reasons why. They are legitimate and yet you don’t do it.  WHY?

As a professional working at the Intersection of Counseling and Coaching, I believe the reasons go beyond the surface of your awareness.  They are complex.  Your unconscious mind is storing negative messages (from childhood) that you have internalized and now believe to be true.

Fear of “perceived” failure and an unknown future are the obstacles to navigate.  If you want to label leaving a bad situation as failure I would definitely disagree.  I call this having courage and willingness to push past your fears for the betterment of yourself, others and the world!  How’s that for a “Courage Rules!” sales pitch? J

As a healthier person you understand the importance of taking responsibility for what you have control over.   If you do that and the other person doesn’t follow suit then the situation worsens.  Now it’s absolutely time to take action.  At this point, why do people stay and what are they really afraid of?

Negative beliefs about your self worth will sabotage your strong desire to make a hard change. Turning those thoughts towards things you like about yourself or are proud of can make all the difference in doing what is hard to do.

Knowing what’s in your best interest is the easy part of change.  Doing it is where ferocious fears block better sense.  It is up to you to find the support to do it.  There is a difference between support from friends and family and getting “good” professional help.

If you are wondering what is the difference, I plan to write about it very soon!   If you are ready to seek professional help then let’s talk now!  Call me and we can set up a complimentary “are we a good fit” telephone conversation.
