Make Room For Your Feelings!

With the spreading nature of the corona virus you are confronted daily with difficult decisions.  What is the right thing to do or not do?  It’s stressful to be in this type of ethical dilemma.  Too much stress is not healthy and over time will weaken your immune system.

As an emotions management expert I have helped hundreds of people feel better during a difficult time or transition.  I’ve learned quite a bit and luckily I’m still learning especially during this unprecedented health crisis.

Everyone is different and yet there is one thing all human beings share.  It’s called FEELINGS!  You share the same feelings or emotions whether you are a man or woman, rich or poor, black or white, republican or democrat… everyone has good and bad feelings.

I read an article earlier this morning and it made me cringe.  A young doctor said “There is no space to feel emotions because there is so much to be done”.  He doesn’t understand that by not making space or time to feel your feelings you hamper your ability to accomplish what is important to you.  I want to scream out to the world… MAKE ROOM FOR YOUR FEELINGS!

What’s super cool is that making room for your feelings doesn’t cost anything and can be done in a few minutes.  Everyone has enough time to do this.  I suggest releasing some stress every day during this crisis.

Here are some suggestions for How to do it…

1.  Tell someone that you feel bad (frustrated, scared, sad…) and why.

2.  “Scribble and Scream” is my signature frustration releasing tool.  Take a crayon or marker and forcefully scribble on paper or cardboard.  Add in screaming if you feel up to it.  No worries if you just want to scribble.

3.  Take a walk or jog deliberately pounding the pavement.

4.  Write in a journal or notebook about how you are feeling.  Focus on your “bad” feelings first.  Later write about what is making you feel good.

5.  Punch a punching bag or pillow and let out a loud sound
