Everything Matters!

A favorite mentor of mine told me “Everything Matters!”  My first thought was no way.  Doesn’t the word everything imply there are no exceptions?  That doesn’t seem right since there are exceptions to everything!  What I later learned was she was right!

In your Job, Business or Life you do things that matter more or less.  It’s a matter of degrees!  Determine the degree and stay focused on what matters most or your highest priorities and values.

You say it doesn’t matter when you get a lower bonus until you learn that a colleague got a larger one.  We deny things matter to avoid feeling bad.  Others minimize positive outcomes.  They want to protect people they care about from feeling bad.   The other possibility is they fear success!

A client comes to see me because they are finally ready to take action!  They are focused on what they don’t like about their job or business.  What they aren’t aware of is how much their personal problems are impacting their work life.  Knowing the bigger picture leads to quicker and better results.

Another example is when someone says, “It really doesn’t matter to me.”  You are  tired of feeling bad about your job situation or life and believe it doesn’t even matter anymore.   Once you feel better you admit that it does matter.  You are more motivated to do something about it.  Consider working with a counselor!

As a Licensed Counselor, Business and Career Coach, I uncover what matters that you may not know.  I pay attention to your verbal and non-verbal communication.  Many times your body language is the main messenger for what really matters to you.  It tells me if you are comfortable or not with what you said.

Maybe I’ve made a mistake.  Do you have an example of something that doesn’t matter?  If so, please share!  As always I’m open to your comments and suggestions.  Thank-you in advance J
