Are You Coachable?

I believe Everyone Can Benefit from having a “Good” Coach.  Ralph Waldo Emerson writes, “Our chief want in life is somebody who shall make us do what we can.” Research shows real results from coaching.  Those who have coaches revel in the remarkable impact their coach has had on their career, business and life.

A Business, Career or Life Coach offers ideas, feedback, advice and accountability.  Coaching can occur in a group setting or one-on-one. Working one-on-one offers an in depth exploration of your personal obstacles and more focused attention on you!  Make sure it’s a good fit.

“Are You Coachable?” is the first question you need to answer.  How do you know?  Why is it so important?  How can you become more coachable?

Questions to Ask Yourself:

  • Do I value professional help or am I a committed “do-it-yourselfer”?
  • Am I willing, able and eager to accept advice, caring constructive comments and focused feedback?
  • Do I value personal growth and understand that change is hard?
  • Am I motivated to achieve a very important goal?
  • Is this the right time? Have I given it enough effort and time by myself?
  • Do I have enough money to pay for it? Am I willing to make some sacrifices like eating out less or taking a less expensive vacation?
  • Am I willing to take time out of my busy schedule to see a coach and do the work required for good results?

You can become more coachable if you really want to.  I recommend going slowly and make a small commitment initially.  Set realistic expectations about results and how fast you can get them.  Keep a journal to track your thoughts and feelings.  Speak up and talk to your coach first before deciding to drop out.
