Have I lost my mind focusing on how someone looks? It might seem so, but I promise that’s not the case. When it comes to attracting something you want like a new job, new friend, new clients it helps to like the way you look. In fact it can help a lot!
Confidence is King! It’s at the center of feeling good about yourself and your life. It’s what I help my clients with, as a professional counselor and life coach. There are many ways to build or maintain confidence. One you might not think of is… liking the way you look!
A prospective client contacts me when their confidence has dipped. They have tried to achieve an important goal like finding more clients, a better job or good dates and it’s just not happening. Feeling like a failure their confidence takes a hit. They want it back. It’s the first thing I focus on.
I’m amazed at the changes clients make that I don’t specifically suggest. Examples are exercising more and eating healthier. Soon they look and feel better. It’s exciting! This excitement is energizing and empowering. Their confidence is coming back!
You wonder why getting in better shape or healthier happens while working with me. I’m not a nutritionist or personal trainer. I’ve asked myself the same question. Did I influence it? If so, what did I do? Here’s what I’ve come up with…
- They are more motivated and determined after taking the first hard step. Contacting me!
- They feel encouraged and pleased by their initial progress.
- Clients know that “liking the way they look” helps them feel better about themselves.
- I help clients quickly feel more hopeful and optimistic which is motivating and empowering.
- I emphasize the importance of feeling good about yourself. Confidence is king!
- I’m an expert in helping people manage difficult emotions, like fear and frustration.
It’s commonly acknowledged that increasing confidence is an inside job. I agree it helps to work through painful experiences from earlier in your life and reframe negative thoughts. I also know that changing something external or liking the way you look can be just as powerful. A few examples are feeling more attractive with a new hairstyle, new clothes or a flatter tummy!
Let’s feel good inside and out! Luckily they impact each other. What small change can you make to feel better about yourself?
I’ve started wearing a small amount of make up and have to admit it makes me feel more attractive. Any ideas for what you might do?
Spring is here and it’s spectacular. Enjoy!!
Take good care,
Margo
