Deciding who to work for or date is a big deal. You know how important it is to feel like you and the other person are a good fit. In my work as a Business and Life Coach I am constantly emphasizing the importance of relationship selection and Not Ignoring The Red Flags!
Why Do You Do It?
Because you’re…
Feeling:
Insecure, Afraid, Frustrated, Discouraged…
OR
Flattered, Excited, Happy, Hopeful…
Thinking:
- I’m tired of looking or waiting for a better fit
- Nothing is perfect!
- I’m finally going to get what I’ve been craving… more money, a flexible schedule or physical affection and companionship and most of all Being Wanted!
- The person will change because of my “greatness”!!
- OR… You’re NOT THINKING!!!
How Do You Stop Ignoring Red Flags?
- Respect your intuition and gut feelings as they are almost always right!
- Pay attention to verbal and nonverbal expressions of concern from people who know you well.
- Record your positive and negative thoughts and feelings and re-read them.
- Increase your commitment to living a life based on your highest values and priorities.
- Remember that doing what’s hard to do results in many rewards!
When you ignore red flags a relationship will likely end and be quite painful. Not too long ago I went through an emotionally painful experience. I’m slowly healing by taking time each day to be alone and reflect. I’ve acknowledged I’m in a grieving process. What’s helping the most is embracing my anger and sadness. I’m also paying close attention to my needs and reaching out for emotional support.
In the future I’ll be very motivated to Pay Attention To Red Flags and not brush them off. They represent danger or beware! I’ll wait and only engage in a relationship or opportunity that feels “right”. With a stronger connection to my inner strength and confidence I won’t be as vulnerable to ignoring warning signs.
More satisfaction and happiness comes to those who are committed to having a better life. You build confidence by challenging yourself to make a change that creates some discomfort.
Cheers to optimism!
