I no longer charge by the hour for business and life coaching. I wonder why it took me so long. Naturally, there are reasons and almost all are emotional. One of my favorite MarGOisms is “Knowing what to do is the easy part.”
As a Business and Life Coach, people ask what I do and I say… “I help people do what they haven’t been able to do on their own, so they can have a better life than they ever thought was possible.” Wow! Are you ready?! If so, then let’s talk!!
Why did I finally stop charging by the hour for business and life coaching? Here are my top three reasons…
#1: The straw that broke my back… embarrassed again!
#2: I became sick and tired of feeling sick and tired… of complaining!
#3: Excited and eager to pursue my newest passion!
Raising my hourly rate has always made me “a little” uncomfortable. Luckily, I had the courage and determination to do it and actually did it many times. Changing my business model to Coaching Packages was easier then I expected. Not sure why but at this point it doesn’t matter. I did it!!
Back to the reasons why…
#1: Many Business and Life coaches have stopped charging by the hour. They also charge considerably more than I do. It’s embarrassing to know you charge less than you are worth. This is especially true for me, since I specialize in helping people get paid based on experience, expertise and reputation.
#2: Complaining happens. You get sick and tired of hearing yourself complain. I complained to friends and family about my rates being too low. They responded… Why don’t you raise them? I always had an excuse. It’s the middle of the year, they are low but higher than they used to be, I value helping and making a difference, not making money.
#3: I am writing a second book with tremendous passion and commitment to excellence. This excitement has motivated me to take on other challenges, like shifting from hourly to higher priced coaching packages or charging what I’m worth!
Soon I’ll present my coaching packages to prospects. I imagine there will be very little if any pushback. Once they check out my competition they will think… why isn’t she charging more?! Success is about making progress 🙂
